Feel Good With Flowers X Trish Peng
On Tuesday February 19th, we had the absolute pleasure collaborating with New Zealand wedding dress designer Trish Peng and Manukau Institute of Technology’s floristry program, to create three beautiful floral backdrops for Trish Peng’s Couture and Wedding Dress Spring Summer range – featuring all NZ Grown flowers and foliage!
This isn’t the first-time Trish has featured NZ grown flowers with her couture designs. In October 2017, we worked with Trish to create a wedding dress made from 100% fresh NZ grown flowers that walked the runway at NZ Fashion Week, making international headlines. Since then, Trish and her brand have become amazing ambassadors for NZ grown flowers.
Approached by Trish to create and bring her floral inspiration to life, we knew just the right people to ask for help. Manukau Institute of Technology’s School of Floristry were more than happy to lend a hand and their expertise. Offering this collaborative opportunity to the MIT School of Floristry students meant they could gain industry experience by learning how to work with a client, time management skills and working with a range of different floral components.
Meeting at Thievery Studio on K-Road, 5 MIT School of Floristry students, their tutor Lynette and Trish worked together on how these magic backdrops were going to come to life. Trish’s inspiration board had touches of dried flora, pink accents and lush foliage – the design style radiating a mix and match of earthy elements and beautiful botanicals.
Trish and her photographer suggested three different floral installations would work best to shoot her large collection of couture designs, 23 styles in total. Two different floral archway designs and a mixed-level floor installation were the top choices. These floral installations would frame the backdrops of the photo shoot, giving it a romantic and on trend wedding vibe to the collection.
What’s a wedding look without the perfect blooms? The result was stunning and the MIT School of Floristry students created spectacular installations using 100% NZ grown flora and fauna.
The first archway was a romantic combination of pink, white and lush greenery. The blooms included pink hydrangeas, white lilies, hanging amaranthus, light pink limoniums, and green foliage.
The second archway consisted of earthy elements and contrasting copper tones with hot pink, deep reds and greenery. The blooms included hot pink hydrangeas, maroon carnations and gerberas, light pink limonium, hanging amaranthus, and purple and green greenery – all New Zealand grown.
The students also created a mixed-level floor installation consisting of two overflowing urns in their own explosion of pinks, white and greens. The blooms included hot pink hydrangeas, light pink carnations, white lilies, pink hanging amaranthus, and greenery.
Once the floristry students had finished their masterpieces it was shoot time!
The floral backdrops looked amazing and helped to showcase Trish’s beautiful designs. The students should be proud of their efforts and creativity. At the end of the day the students packed down their creations, and took the used flowers back to school, ready to practice and create more floral designs. It was great to see product being recycled into new creations, giving the students additional opportunities to work with a broad range of NZ grown flowers.
Trish Peng’s bridal gowns are second to none and to have her designs complemented by locally grown products is so special. Flowers are a huge part of every wedding and this collaboration once again highlighted the brilliance of flowers as a bridal accessory. A special thanks to the MIT students and Lynette for providing their fantastic hands and expertise on the day. As well as Trish Peng for providing for the opportunity to work with such an amazing client
