How To Care For Your Cymbidiums

It's Cymbidium Orchid Season! Known for their chic elegance and unique style, Cymbidium Orchids make a powerful floral statement. Commonly known as 'Boat Orchids' these tall linear flowers have star-shaped blooms and subtle fragrance.

Not only do they look and smell good, but they are a long-lasting flower option that can last up to 3 weeks with proper care! Cymbidium Orchids are available in NZ from April until November and take on average 3 to 5 years for the plants to mature before we can enjoy their exotic blooms. Did you know that Cymbidium Orchid stems are grown attached to a pulley system? A naturally trialling plant, the pulley system keeps the stem perfectly straight as it continues to grow.

How To Care For Your Cymbidium Orchids:

Cymbidium Orchids can last up to 3 to 5 weeks with proper care. Follow these tips to ensure the best vase life:

  1. Fill 1/2 of a clean vase with room temperature water and mix in flower food.
  2. Remove any leaves or flowers off your stems that will be below the waterline.
  3. Trim 1cm off the Cymbidium stems at an angled cut.
  4. Change the water every two days and make sure to re-cut the stems.

To keep your Cymbidium Orchids in top condition, make sure you use a supportive vase.
