How To Care For Your Cymbidiums
It's Cymbidium Orchid Season! Known for their chic elegance and unique style, Cymbidium Orchids make a powerful floral statement. Commonly known as 'Boat Orchids' these tall linear flowers have star-shaped blooms and subtle fragrance.
Not only do they look and smell good, but they are a long-lasting flower option that can last up to 3 weeks with proper care! Cymbidium Orchids are available in NZ from April until November and take on average 3 to 5 years for the plants to mature before we can enjoy their exotic blooms. Did you know that Cymbidium Orchid stems are grown attached to a pulley system? A naturally trialling plant, the pulley system keeps the stem perfectly straight as it continues to grow.
How To Care For Your Cymbidium Orchids:
Cymbidium Orchids can last up to 3 to 5 weeks with proper care. Follow these tips to ensure the best vase life:
- Fill 1/2 of a clean vase with room temperature water and mix in flower food.
- Remove any leaves or flowers off your stems that will be below the waterline.
- Trim 1cm off the Cymbidium stems at an angled cut.
- Change the water every two days and make sure to re-cut the stems.
To keep your Cymbidium Orchids in top condition, make sure you use a supportive vase.
