July Flower Of The Month - Protea

We’ve never met a variety of Protea we didn’t like.
Venus, pink ice, limelight – we could never say no to a vase full of them.

The Protea is a unique flower due to its woody texture. They are more common in shades of pink and white, with a sturdy structure and a fuzzy texture. Protea also come in a ‘King’ variety that is larger, with pointier edges.

The hardy bloom can withstand wildfires and is long lasting as a cut flower. They are great for dried arrangements.

The Protea is South Africas national flower but also grows really well in the New Zealand climate.
Protea are grown in New Zealand over Winter, usually from around April and lasting till October (some varieties even longer).
