Love What'S In Season - Freesias
New Zealand Freesia season is here!
For the Month of April, we're celebrating Freesias! Starting in March and finishing in December, freesias are grown primarily in the North Island and prefer a warmer and drier climate. Freesias are generally sold while in a tight bud stage and open to release their sweet fragrance! Freesias come in variety of colours, from white, cream, pink, yellow, red, lilac and purple, to name a few!
An interesting fact and to make your freesias last longer, you can expand the vase life freesias by keeping away from ethylene gas, such as plants and ripening fruits and vegetables. Freesia’s are particularly sensitive to the gas and will deteriorate rapidly.
Freesia’s average vase life is 4 to 12 days with proper care.
How to Care for Your Freesias
- Add room temperature water to a clean vase and add flower food to the water
- Trim the stems diagonally by 3 to 5cm and immediately place in water
- Do not place freesias next to a fruit bowl or fruit or in bright sunlight
- Check regularly that the flowers have enough water and top up when low
- Trim the stems every two days to keep stems fresh

The freesia symbolises unconditional love. White freesias are the traditional flowers to give your partner are 7 years of marriage. They symbolise pure and genuine love, as well as innocence.
