Protea - Love What'S In Season
As part of a new collaboration, we are beyond excited to be working with Together Journal to highlight locally grown, seasonal flowers.
Each month we will give two local florists the same product, with one specific New Zealand grown flower to feature. The florists will then each create a floral arrangement, highlighting their own design style.
This July 2018, the feature flower is New Zealand grown Protea!
The Protea is a unique flower due to it's woody texture. More common in shades of pink and white, Protea also come in a ‘King’ variety that is larger, with pointier edges. The hardy bloom can withstand wildfires and is long lasting as a cut flower.
They are grown in New Zealand over Winter, usually from around April and lasting till October (some varieties even longer).
We worked with Auckland based designers, Floral Stylist and Rose Tinted Flowers, who each created a winter wedding bouquet featuring seasonal product. Both created two very different, beautiful designs.
Sue from Floral Stylist did an all white bouquet, featuring a white King Protea.
Rosie from Rose Tinted Flowers used deep and moody tones, featuring the Protea varieties 'Pink Ice' and 'Protea Nerifolia'.
